5.12.2017

It was back in the trenches today - literally!  Jim had some hand shoveling to do...

Digging with the excavator...

Making some good progress...

Things started getting a bit more cautious around this point.  You can see the location of the lawn hydrant - Jim needed to be careful around the existing pipe so as not to damage something that could possibly contaminate the well.

Digging around the lawn hydrant...

Getting closer to the well...it was hard for Jim to position the excavator around everything!

Checking to see if the hydrant can be removed yet...

Freeing the lawn hydrant required lots of careful hand digging...

Hydrant is out!

Carefully digging around the well - Jim is getting all the cords and ropes out of the way.

Jim had to reposition so that he could dig from the side...

So very much hand digging!

Jim had to take a break from digging and move some dirt with the Bobcat so he could reposition...

Digging carefully near the well...

First sign of the temporary water line that went to the lawn hydrant...

More digging to unearth more of the pipe...

Then some good old-fashioned yanking of the water line to get it out!

Almost there...

Yay - it's free!

Jim really had to be careful here...this is the connection to the well.

Jim taped the water line to the well to keep it out of the way.

Then he cut the line and taped up the end to keep everything clean.

Now that the trench is dug, time for a little rock (or big rock!) clean up.

Of course, we are supposed to get some rain this weekend.  So Jim spent time piling up the dirt all around the trench to divert the water and hopefully keep anything from collapsing too much.

While he was at it, he extended the piles around the stairwell area.

A great day's work!
