Then it was back to work on the siding. Unbeknownst to me, before I got there Jim took apart the siding he did yesterday because he wanted to move the starter plank down a fraction of an inch! Only Jim!
Some of these pictures are from a different angle, because I spent a lot of the day inside the shop handing tools and shingles out through the shop window.
Doing some touch-up painting on the caulking joints as he goes along...
Wow - taking shape!
Time to make more flashing to go next to the corner trim board.
Jim is stapling up the Kleer trim on top of the ledger board...
Then putting up the next starter plank...
Jim has been using his drywall gun and screws to fasten the shingles. He decided to try the stainless steel roofing nails. It worked - now he has an option. The nail gun works well but you have to be very cognizant of where the studs are. Jim has marked them on the wall and in those areas can use the screws because they are shorter.
It's kind of an art form to put these up - there are 4 main sizes of shingles and there are different quantities of each. We were wondering how to put them up randomly without putting too much thought into that process. But it kind of works out - Jim has to watch seams and fasteners so certain pieces just fit better - and becomes random!
Unfortunately, all the different sizes of shingles, two different guns, hammer, driver, caulk, etc. takes up a lot of room! And as you can see, Jim is working off planks high in the air. That's kind of frustrating - and led to a dropped gun and shingle at one point. Jim got more planks and is using some for staging areas, which helps a little.
Installation of next piece of flashing...
End-of-the-day progress!
