9.11.2016

After starting the day with pancakes, it was time to head out to the property.  Jim and Kyle got busy unloading the workshop tools from the truck.

This is the heaviest tool of all - the planer.  So glad Kyle was able to help get this moved.

They were also able to get the living room window moved upstairs.

After lunch, it was time to cut down some trees!  The straightest path for the water line to go from the pump to the building was through a couple of ugly trees.  This tree is actually branches that grew out from a long-fallen dead tree.  Kyle's cutting it down...

Continuing to cut down all the branches...

Julia and I carried off the branches.  Some time later, Jim and I will bring the chipper out to take care of them.

This tree is next...Jim's making the initial cuts.

Didn't want to budge so Jim pounded some wedges in...

Starting to go...

Using the Bobcat to move the tree out of the way.

Kyle's cutting off the branches and Julia is dragging them away.

Jim working on the roots...

Kyle cutting the trunk into logs...

More roots...

This is the next tree that Jim wanted to cut down so he's starting to make the cuts...

Unfortunately, when Jim made the heel cut on the back of the tree, the heel cracked and pinched the chainsaw blade in between.  We tried to get it out but couldn't.

Then they just let the tree fall backwards - thankfully it fell in a perfect position and really never touched the house.  The chainsaw needed some minor repair work but all ended well.

However, now Jim had to get the tree out of the hole.  The Bobcat came to the rescue!

Dragging it out...

...and up the hill.

Unfortunately, it was a short day.  Kyle and Julia had a meeting to head back for and we had church this evening.  Jim and Kyle got the logs moved down to our big pile and a few more things cleaned up.

It was so good to have Kyle & Julia here - besides appreciating their help, we enjoyed spending time with them!
