7.22.2021

Jim was out of primer and needed a couple things at Lowe's, so I headed out this morning to do those errands as well as go to the grocery store.  Of course, the special sandable primer that Jim likes is apparently a victim of the supply chain issues; the guy at the store said he didn't expect it to come in any time soon.  He recommended another brand (more expensive of course) so Jim will give it a try.

When I got home, Jim had done the hinge millwork on the bathroom door and brought it up for a fit check - look how great this is going to look!

Jim had only done the millwork for the top and bottom hinges; after fitting it, he cut the placement for the middle hinge as well using his jig...

Yesterday afternoon, Jim put a coat of rustoleum paint on the excavator bucket ears...

Today is was time to start putting the thumb on.  First some seals...

He got the bucket lined up and the thumb brought over - it weighs a ton!

Took some maneuvering and pry bars to get things in the right position...

Putting the new swivel pin through - this connects the thumb, bucket and boom together...

First step done - everything fits well so far!

Of course, as many tools Jim has, there's always something else you need.  His tool for attaching these C- clips is not quite the right size but he was able to make it work...

This pin is for the control connection for the bucket...

This connection is for the thumb cylinder at the Bobcat - these are the ears that Jim heated up to try and straighten a couple days ago...

But the holes weren't quite aligned...

A couple swings of the hammer straightened the ear...

Jim was able to get the pint through!

Next, is the connect ion at the thumb...

Jim had to lift the thumb and aligned it and I put the pin through - all done!

Jim was putting on the C-clip (again not having the precise size tool needed) and it sprung off - we searched and searched, even getting the pinpoint metal detector...

And the regular metal detector out with no luck.  Weird.

Oops - there is a shipping plug in the cylinder where the hoses connect - it was apparently under some pressure and sprayed Jim with hydraulic fluid...

Starting to attach the hydraulic hoses...

High 74/Low 59 - beautiful!
