7.2.2021 - Recap!

It was a wonderful trip back to see my mom after 18 long months!  I was able to be there for her cataract surgery and follow-up appointments.  We got visits in with my brother, his wife and their toddler grandson that I had never seen.  The time went quickly - I got home yesterday late afternoon.  Jim and I went out to eat at a new brewery in Saratoga to catch up, which was so nice.

Jim got so much done while I was gone!  I'll try and recap the highlights but I know I'll miss lots!  He continued working on planing and straightening the wood for the bathroom door - got all the pieces rough cut to size...

More gluing....

You can see how the pieces aren't flat or square - Jim had to do lots of planing.  Here the rail is flat but the style has a twist to it...

After Jim has both pieces planed and squared...

Lots more planing work on the baseboard molding pieces...

He then shaped the cap moulding - same design on both sides of the board...

Then he cut the pieces in half to make the individual pieces...

Next was the millwork - cutting the space on the back of the cap moulding where it will fit over the baseboard and making the relief cuts in the back of the baseboard...

Pieces sanded and primed...

Jim started figuring out the technique to install the plywood backing piece in the stairwell...

Then the baseboard and cap moulding - including finished ends!

It will still have to be painted, but look how beautiful this area looks!

Then he started working on preparing the stair runners for painting, so more taping, paper covers on stairs and wall...

Painted!

This runner is all done - looks even better in person!

Probably over 2 hours worth of work on prepping this next section...

Done!

We had ordered hydraulic oil for the car lift back on June 16th - of course, it got lost in shipment.  I had to call and get it reshipped and it didn't come until Tuesday evening so Jim wasn't able to work on it until then.  Everything is assembled and the arms are on...

Jim had lots of testing to do but check it out - the Mini is up in the air!  It's still like this which is totally amazing every time I see it!

Of course, Jim did lots of other tasks.  He changed the oil and hydraulic fluid in the Bobcat...

He changed the hydrostatic oil in the Tiger Cub.  He had lots of grass to cut as well.

He worked on plastering in the metal shop...

Whew - that's pretty much the recap of the big accomplishments while I was gone - and there were a lot!

Today, he went and picked up the sealed window glass for the bathroom window.  He did final cleanup, removing the old sealant...

Trying out the new glass...

He made moulding pieces to match what was there before to hold in the glass - they look identical to what was there!

Then the cladding will go on top.  This was just to show me the steps - he'll have to permanently attach and caulk when he puts it all together.  But great progress!

High 63/Low 55 - Jim had a couple hot days with the heat wave that hit both coasts but today was cool and drizzly.
