10.23.2018

Another kind of crazy day for Jim again.  My car is due to have its state safety inspection before the end of the month, so Jim decided to take it today.  He went out and had trouble getting the car to start.  I've had no issues and it eventually started, so it's something we are going to have to keep a close eye on.  That's the last thing Jim needs now is a big car project!  But otherwise my car passed with flying colors so it's good for another year.

Once Jim got back, he decided to go and do a little trenching towards the gas line at the house.  He no more got started then it started to rain.  So he came in and thought he'd do some more vent work in the attic - and then the sun came out.

Jim did spend some time getting the water softener head ready to be shipped back for repair.  I took it to the post office today so hopefully it won't take too long before we get it back.

Finally he was able to get out and do some shingle work.  He started building up in the back...

Then, of course, he had another interruption.  We've been trying to get estimates for a tree service to cut down the dead tree behind the house.  Two of the services that Jim called on Saturday have never called back - so frustrating.  I called a couple more today - one company said they had an opening and would send someone out.  This guy even called Jim to let him know he was on his way - a novel concept these days!  But that professionalism comes with a high cost.  It was over 50% more than we were thinking it would cost.  Jim wants it down so if we have to pay that, we will, but we'll get a few more estimates first.

Back on the roof....

Five courses on and time for the first roof jacks.  At least that's a bit easier for Jim to work from (not in my book!).

He had to figure out all the side cuts and he's back to texturing the edges to match the rest of the shingles..

End-of-the-day picture - great progress!

Jim was also waiting for a call from the gas company.  He talked to one person today but the president of the company was supposed to call him and never did.  Once Jim got in for the night, he called the president again and was able to talk to him.  They confirmed that they will be dropping off our tank Thursday morning and filling it up!  It's a big complicated because we are going to use the remaining propane in the existing tanks first before hooking up to the new tank.  We'll see how all that goes but we're moving along!

Our blind order came this evening too, so I'm excited about that.  Good thing I just happened to check my email on delivery - I saw that they were out for delivery but hadn't come yet when Jim came in.  They must have come right afterwards - it is raining again and they just left them by the garage doors so I was glad I checked so that I could bring them inside.
