10.22.2018

This morning, it was back out to work on the hole for the propane gas tank.

Of course, that means back to rock duty!

Doing some crumbing at the bottom...

Jim remarked the lines where he needs to stop...

We loaded up some of the rocks in the bucket of the Bobcat and then brought them around the back.  We'll use them to finish the drainage area around the back of the auto bay.

Jim had to do a little dirt pile condensing - he's dug a lot of dirt!

Jim was just dumping a load of dirt when the excavator just stopped.  We were so close to being done that you start imaging the worst.  Jim had to start exploring to see what could possibly be wrong.  He discovered that it was low on hydraulic fluid.  Thankfully, Jim had this big 5 gallon bucket of it that he had brought from Ohio!  Once he got it filled up, it was good to go.  Jim hates these kinds of issues though because he takes such good care of all the machines.  There is just not enough time at the moment to take care of everything as well as he would like.

We were so grateful that the excavator was working again because we are getting close - a little more hand crumbing...

The hole is all dug now and Jim is doing some measurements...

Checking the depth...

Then seeing how level the hole is...

Jim has to dig the remaining hole by hand to the existing gas line to the house.  It's quite a bit of work so he's doing it in stages...

He did some more crumbing of the hole before he called it finished - pictures to come.  He called the gas company to see about getting the tank brought out.  He talked to one person but the president of the company is the one that Jim has been working with and he was supposed to call Jim back.  So as of right now, we don't have a firm date.

Once he got all the tools put away, he still had to work once he came in the house.  We discovered that the water softener also got damaged from the electric current spike once the power came back on last week.  Jim has been working with a technician but none of the fixes worked.  So Jim had to work on taking the head of the machine apart - we will mail it back tomorrow and then will repair it.  Although our water is very good, we noticed a big difference when we took our showers tonight!

Lots to be thankful for today - especially that the excavator continued to work so that Jim could get the hole finished!

We have our first "winter" weather forecast - they are predicting up to an inch of snow overnight!

  1. I don't remember if Jim has installed a whole house surge protector, but seeing as how just one power outage resulted in 2 damaged appliances, it might be time to get one.
