8.17.18 - Moving in day!!

Wow...what a day!  Jim said it felt like the longest day of his life!  But we are beyond excited - we keep looking at each other in disbelief that we are here.  We are moved into the carriage house!  This has been quite a journey and we are just giddy with excitement.

The day started early - too early.  I was awake from about 4:00 on and Jim didn't sleep after 5:00.  Then the movers showed up right on time at 9:00.  We had things as ready as possible for them.

Taking the box springs down the stairs...

The couch is always an issue - they struggled just to get it out of the living room.

They tried to get it out the door but no luck, so they took the door off the hinges.  Jim had already removed the feet on the couch to make it easier.  As an aside, when we moved in they were able to get the couch up the stairs when we moved in without taking either the door or the feet off!    However, it wasn't easy and we still think that was the cause of Jim's meniscus tear.

But they finally got it down the steps and everything else loaded up.  They didn't take much - the mattress sets, the couch, and 3 chairs.  Then we headed to the carriage house.  Jim is directing them up the driveway...

Now the couch has to go up the stairs!  Thankfully, Jim had taken the railings and spindle frames off to make all of this doable.

Putting it down in the living room...

Jim was most worried about whether the box spring would be able to fit up the stairs - it was a tight squeeze but they made it!

They were a good couple of guys - everything went just like clockwork.  We even stayed inside our two-hour minimum time so it was a good deal too!

We were so blessed with the weather too - it looked a bit threatening while we were moving but stayed dry.  After they left, the rains moved in.

I played in the guest bedroom putting the bed together.  I had already washed all these linens so it was easy to make it up.  Sure looks pretty!

After they left, Jim had to work on internet wiring.  He's making the connectors...

He got his computer online quickly; however, there were some technical issues with the jack in the second bedroom, which I will be using as my office.  He had to spend awhile troubleshooting the issues - it turns out that one of the 8 wires in the connector was broken.  But he got it!  Testing it out with the blog on his laptop!

The one thing we were going to have the movers do was help Jim with getting the TV on the mount.  The stand is very heavy and you can't hold the TV and take off the stand and get it up on the mount at once!  But unfortunately, we remembered as they were pulling down the driveway.  So Jim came up with Plan B for the two of us to do it.  It went fairly smoothly and it's now attached to the wall!

He also ran into some difficulties with the shower.  He had to take the mixing valve off the other day when he was working on the hot water and it wasn't working now.  So he had to spend a good while troubleshooting that issue and taking everything apart and putting it back together.  But he got it - whew!

Later in the afternoon, we took our truck and headed back to the apartment.  Where there was still way too much stuff!  We brought the majority of it back.  We weren't quite as lucky with the rain while unloading.

Our bed all put together and looking cozy!

Jim's first shower later and he is finally relaxing on the couch watching it rain.  Just as yesterday was full of "lasts," today was full of "firsts"!  We will rearrange the living room more tomorrow but it felt so amazing just to sit down and relax!

We had our first dinner at the carriage house - chicken enchiladas !  And the Browns were playing on TV - life is definitely good!

We feel so happy to be here and it feels just like home.
