6.3.2017

As promised, these are some pictures of the things Jim has found recently with his metal detector - check out the big square nails and part of a horseshoe!

And this looks like maybe part of an old plow?

Jim did more plumbing this morning - the washer hookup is all done, lines crimped and ready to go!  Jim spent awhile getting the box where he wanted it and all fastened down.

The line to the shower head is also done and crimped.  He took the valve assembly down to put together all the joints.

Back outside to work on siding.  However, Jim first spent quite awhile figuring out vent placement and how to best attach the vents with the siding.  He decided to run the dryer vent out through the area by the roof rafter tails and then out the side.  Having it at the side of the dryer as opposed to the back will allow for a better fit against the back wall as well as having access to be able to clean the vent.

Mounting it on the siding is a whole different problem.  Because of the shape of the siding and the fact that it all overlaps, it would be very difficult to get a good seal by just placing the vent on the siding.  Jim decided to make a trim board and he'll mount the vent through the bottom of that.  In that way, he has a flat surface to mount the vent to and can get a good seal.

Speaking of vents, Jim found some stainless steel ones online that he is interested in but he is first going to check with his local roofing company rep to see what he has.

Jim decided to draw a template of the two roof angles - the top trim area as well as the bottom eave - so that he can use that when cutting pieces of siding.

He had to make some more flashing to go next to the trim board...

Attaching the flashing...

Then starting to put up siding on this side!

More siding progress...

Finally past the trim board!

By the end of the day, he got siding all the way over to the corner.  Jim had to temporarily put up the fascia board in order to insure he got the right connection with the siding.
