6.19.2017

I headed to Saratoga this morning after stopping at the property and having Jim load up the battery for the newer 4Runner.  It's totally dead.  It worked fine until a couple of weeks ago and now it won't hold a charge at all.  Of course, taking it back to Sears and proving that takes quite a bit of time but they eventually gave us a new battery.

There was a thunderstorm in Saratoga while I was in the grocery store but it was nice on my way home - until I got close to the property and the storm caught up with me!  Then it was one of those quick, deadly rain events - unfortunately, it looks like it caused more gravel to wash away and after we got that all cleaned up!  It's a good thing Jim worked more on the swale because the water ran away from the house and didn't wash away where we are working on the siding.  Thunderstorms are kind of rare events around here but unfortunately we're not in perfect shape to prevent runoff.  One of the issues with living on a big hill - but we'll take it!

Big news - Jim didn't have to work on plumbing this morning because the leaks seem to have stopped - halleluiah!  He did take a trip to the plumbing supply company at lunch to pick up the tubing for the water softener so we can get that all closed off but they didn't have it.

Jim spent pretty much all day working in the apartment, mostly drilling holes in the steel!  Definitely not glamorous work and pretty tough on the body, but he made some really good progress.

He drilled the big holes in the valley rafter in the second bedroom closet area to allow for ventilation.  If you look closer, you can see that he did all the smaller holes as well.  Unfortunately, now there is so much steel in these areas - Jim actually had to unfasten the top part of the wall so that he could reach in to be able to drill holes.

Once he had his ventilation holes drilled, Jim used rigid foam board to make some standoffs - he glued and screwed them in place.

Then he was able to make his box baffle on top of that so there is still ventilation as well as a perfect cavity for insulation batting.

He continued working around the valley rafter on the closet side and got all of the box baffles made, the roof baffles on top, and pretty much ready for insulation!

I picked up more cans of spray foam when I was out, so Jim was able to go through 2 big cans of foam filling in all the holes he made.
