6.2.2017

Jim worked on some plumbing this morning - he's decided to get a few more parts to configure the pump system a little differently.  So all that takes time to figure out what to do and what parts you'll need!

He also started working on the overhang for the stairwell door - that project is bubbling up to the surface quickly.

However, when I pulled up to the carriage house after lunch, this is the scene I found...  Look closely at the top of the roof - yep, that's Jim!  Definitely gave me a start!

He had talked about needing to go up and fix the seal on the vent pipe.  When he glued up the stack and tested it, he had things capped off before the vent pipe went out the roof.  After it was tested, he painted the pipe and then had to push it up through the vent seal on the roof and down onto the stack.  Which caused the seal to crinkle a bit letting water seep through.  If there was enough room, he could have pushed it out from below, but his fittings were too precise.  You can see how the lip of the seal was not flat against the pipe.

From above, he was able to carefully fix the seal so that it laid flat.

Jim said it was kind of humbling to be up on the roof again, looking over all that we have accomplished in less than 3 years!  It's a big structure and built so incredibly well!  I told him that's why I'm constantly telling him that we're making great progress and that he's not slow!

Getting down from the roof though was a scary adventure.  He had just put his regular straight ladder on top of the scaffolding to get up.  However, it was short of the roofline so when he came back down, he had to blindly try to find the ladder without anything to hold on to!  Thankfully all was well and he was back inside by the time I made it into the apartment!

We had planned to do more siding work today, but it was a cool day with some wind that made it feel cooler - so we figured it was a better insulation day.

First area was the bathroom wall...

Jim had to contort himself to fit behind the stack in order to work in this area!

Then working in the laundry room...

This area required lots of fill-in insulation...

...as well as some special cutting around the box.

Bringing up more insulation...Jim is behind there somewhere!

Working on the last section for the day.

Jim wanted to do a little more grass cutting at the end of the day - plus after that, he played with the metal detector for a bit down at the end of the driveway.  I'll have to take some pictures of his treasures tomorrow!
