5.8.2015

This was another one of those days that tests your perseverance.  The day started out fine - although very warm for this time of year, especially when working on a metal roof!  Jim got all of the welding on the deck done - looks great!  But he actually got a sunburn from the welding - again, way too hot to be doing that kind of work up there with all the reflective heat added in.

Jim mounted one of the manifolds that will be used for the radiant heating system.

We then took shelter from the sun and heat inside the carriage house and started to do some scaffolding work.  We moved everything from this bay and Jim compacted the gravel.

We disassembled one of the towers and reassembled it in this bay.  However, then we went to our new scaffolding and tried to insert the jack feet into the scaffolding - and it wouldn't go up into the tubes.  At first, we figured there were rocks inside but when Jim got a flashlight and looked inside, they had made sloppy welds at the intersection of two pieces and it extended into the tube area.  There was no way to budge it.  We tested all of the other ones and found a total of 3 that were messed up!  That meant that not only could we not build the towers as we wanted to, but we had to fuss with the company on the phone, get them reordered, and wait for delivery - again!

This was pretty upsetting and really threw a wrench in the day's plans and wasted a lot of time, not to mention the mental anguish involved.  Regrouping is definitely in order.

As the day wore on and the sun wasn't quite as strong, we headed back up to the roof to work on caulking some of the holes.  As only Jim would do, he moved this bucket of old caulk all the way from Ohio just for these kinds of purposes.  So we would use up whatever remained in the tube - didn't matter the color, type or quality - as long as it filled in some holes.

To top off the day, the Cavs lost their playoff game against the Bulls.  Ugh.
