Happy Mother's Day!

We had a shortened day today - we decided to record the Cavs playoff game which started at 3:30 because it's tough to give up good working time right now.  We are planning to go to church this evening so we'll watch it when we get home.

Jim wasn't sure how the Pex roll out was going to work.  It came in an enormous box that took Kyle and Jim to carry.  It's 1000 feet of heavy plastic tubing tightly wound.  We have to be careful not to get any tears in it because then it won't work, so trying to untangle it on the deck with all the sharp edges wasn't an option.  Plus you can't just roll it out - it's wound so tight you have to roll it a bit, pull it out and continue on and on.

Jim has the circuits all designed (there will be 4 on the deck) and knows how many feet of Pex are in each, so he first got the measuring wheel out and marked off the right number of feet.  He had just got the first section unrolled when I got there.  But it was tough to do - he had to set up the sawhorses and use a piece of conduit to hold the roll.  Then he would unroll some, go down and pull it out, and continue over and over.  Plus it was still really warm - quite a workout!

Here's the giant roll on Jim's invention - this is after the first circuit length has been rolled out.

Once it was the right length, he cut it and then had to roll it back up.

Here's the Pex for the first circuit - only 3 more to go!

It was a little easier with two people - I pulled while Jim had to continuously unroll the tubing.  But we got them all done and had the right amount (always a worry!).  It's good to have that done - Jim wasn't sure how that was going to go.

Before we could do more backfilling, Jim had to build up the downspout that we had capped.  You don't see too many houses with gutters because of the harsh winters here but we want to have provisions if we want to have them.

Another section on and capped.

Jim decided to do some backfilling by pushing the dirt from the dirt pile right into the hole.  It's much easier this way but he can't compact it at the same time as he can when he can drive the Bobcat over and over it.

There wasn't much rock duty to be done since most of the dirt is away from the building at this point.

Our dirt piles are really starting to go down!

End of the day - looking good!
