10.1.2024

Happy first day of October - and fall in Upstate New York is always a thing of beauty!  The leaves are turning and the sky is blue - we love our piece of this world!

Jim got up early this morning and headed out to first pick up a trailer from U-Haul and then pick up equipment from the rental place.  He lucked out and someone had returned a compactor, so he was able to get that too.  Back home, he first started getting ready to lift the compactor...

Picking it up...

And moving it up the driveway...

Starting to compact the ground where the shed will be - this was tough pushing it over the ground...

Continuing to compact...

Then he moved the compactor down to the pavilion and compacted that area...

Much easier job to push over this area...

Almost ready for concrete!

Loading the compactor back up...

Jim is always conscientious about cleaning any rented tools...

Putting it back in the trailer...

Next was the auger - he put the forks on the Bobcat to get the pallet off...

Got the auger attachment hooked to the Bobcat...

It was a struggle to get the big auger in the right position to hook on - it's so very heavy...

Attached!

Connecting all the hydraulic lines...

Testing it out...

Jim had ordered a 16" auger and that's what it clearly states, but...it's really only 14".  Hmm...

We first doublechecked our measurements and then Jim got in position to start drilling...

Drilling...

Moving over to the next hole...

Our soil is wonderful - until you start digging holes.  There are so many rocks that make it really difficult.  The auger hits a rock and tends to skip off it, causing the hole to widen where you don't want it.  Jim had to use the post hole digger to try and remove rocks...

Cleaning up around the hole...

He also had to do a lot of hole diving to try and remove rocks...

Throwing out rocks...

All the tools come out for this job - using the spud bar...

And digging for more rocks...

Only two of the six holes were smooth, with no rocks and no issues.  The others were a challenge.  We'll have to do some clean up, but all the holes are in place.

This is one reason why Jim likes to have his own tools - he had to have the equipment back by their closing time of 4:30, so he had to constantly watch his time.  Power spraying off the auger...

Getting it loaded back onto the pallet...

And back onto the trailer.  He got everything back in time, and then came home and put all the leftover tools and equipment away.  A successful day!

High 70.5/Low 51.8 - beautiful!
