10.22.2024

While we are probably past peak for the leaves, fall continues to be just gorgeous, especially on Angel!

Plus, not only does the town make the road in front of our property beautiful, they come around and keep it clean too!  Jim and I try and keep up with it as well, but unfortunately people still litter.  We appreciate our town workers!

Jim had an eye doctor appointment first thing this morning - he got a great result, for which we are very grateful!

Once he got home and ate breakfast, he headed out to do some site prep work.  Just in case the concrete truck can't make it back to the shed area, Jim needs to come up with Plan B options.  So he graded off the slope a bit...

He moved the log splitter out of the way so that he can bring the Bobcat through the woods and reach the back of the shed...

Moving some of our collected wood out of the way...

He brought over some dirt to fill in behind the back area to provide support and fill in for grading purposes as well...

Graded out a bit in the back...

He discovered a stump on his path, so he brought over the excavator to dig it out...

Jim made a jig that I used to go around the inside of the skirting boards and mark the location for gravel, so that he will have the right amount of concrete on top...

He used the Bobcat to bring over a couple of bucketsful of gravel to get started...

He used the excavator to push it around a little...

He brought over some bucketsful around the back side...

One more for good measure - although later we decided that this was one too many!

Doing some spreading...

Spreading with the excavator around the back...

But then it came down to lots and lots of hand shoveling and using the come alongs to spread the gravel where it needed to go...

Taking good shape - we also put gravel around the edges...

We ended up having to shovel out excess gravel, but we will need it for the concrete pad in front of the shed anyway.  Jim wanted to put the longer screws in the tie connections to the middle posts, so we left those areas open, but everything looks great!

Next we used a string and tape measure to measure the distance from the string, again to make sure it is flat and we have the appropriate amount of concrete...

Using the come along to get the gravel at the right level and flat...

Last measurement - it's all good!

A lot of work but gravel is all in place...

Jim next had to move the rest of the gravel pile out of the driveway.  He reserved a plate compactor for tomorrow, so he needs to be able to get that back to the shed area, plus the concrete truck will obviously need access.  So he's putting it up on the top of the hill for the moment...

He put some in front of the shed to start working on our pad area...

Driveway clear!

The screws came by FedEx at about 4:45 - I went down and got them and Jim started replacing screws...

High 78.8/Low 51.5 - beautiful!
