Jim called this morning to order concrete. Because the weather has been so beautiful, he knew they were going to be busy and it may be tough to get a good time this week. In fact, when he called, the scheduler was too busy and had to call him back, which she did when he was eating lunch. But we got Thursday at 10:00 - perfect! But still lots of work to do before then!
Jim first had to do some digging in order to get down to where the skirting board needed to be positioned on this side...
Once we got it dug out enough, Jim fastened the ends of the board to the corner posts to hold it in position...
Then he was able to mark the position of the board on the middle post...
He started making cuts in the post...
Fastening the skirting board to the post. I will make note here that Jim is using stainless steel screws for all the permanent fastening. However, the ones he had worked but he wants them a little longer, so he ordered more and they should come in on Wednesday.
All of the skirting boards are in place - and just look at how fabulous the corner post connections look...
Now that the skirting boards are in place, Jim can take off all the boards he was using for temporary stabilization...
Then it was time to start cutting the posts off even with the top of the skirting boards. Jim brought out his Japanese saw that he used when building the pavilion...
While I was busy marking the other posts, Jim had cut the other front post!
Working on the ground like this, it's really difficult to get the right leverage and position, but he got the last corner post cut...
Placing it required more digging...
Once the tie was fastened in place, time to cut the middle posts - I caught this picture just as Jim cut through it...
Next step is to put a plate on top of each of the skirting boards. Jim cut the first one to size. I marked off every foot and Jim predrilled at each spot...
