I had an early morning doctor appointment and then did some grocery errands afterwards. Jim had gotten his tools and equipment ready before lunch, and after helping me with groceries, he ate and then headed outside.
These are the skirt boards that will go at the bottom of the building - Jim cut the first to size and predrilled attachment holes...
He's using them to continue to work on exact placement of the posts, so he attached the board to the posts...

This is where it all becomes difficult - there are so many factors to get right, and every time one element is changed, it changes everything else. Each post has to be in the correct position and plumb, as well as the precise measurements.
But besides the inevitable tweaking he will do, Jim was finally happy enough that we started filling the first hole. We would shovel dirt and then Jim would tamp it down with the pry bar...
