10.2.2023

Jim did his computer work this morning, getting more dimensions on his drawing for the complex angles he needs to cut for the hip rafters.  Then he got all the tools and equipment up to the pavilion and started making the shoulder cuts on the rafters...

Because this angle is so tough, he wanted to make a test one first...

So very many cuts...

Trying out his test...

Then he had to do it for real this time, first marking...

Then making the cuts...

Making sure that his test matches the real rafter...

Then taking it up on top...

Trying it out - he's happy so he can proceed...

The next step is also complicated - making the shoulder cuts in the beam.  Marking...

Chiseling...

This was the view from on top - a good stopping point because he needs to get accurate dimensions from the computer before proceeding.

So a great day - these are the most difficult rafters to figure out and carve, so having one in good shape is great progress!

High 76.2/Low 54.3 - beautiful!
