This morning, Jim used his new Japanese knife to cut the concrete tube - he's going to do this concrete post a little differently.
Jim spent probably over 1-1/2 hours getting everything ready to do our first concrete pour for the new post. He had to get the hoses and make sure the faucet worked, bring up the power washer and get it all hooked up, bring up the concrete pallet, the mortar box, the tools, the forks - and that's just what he needed in this area!
He brought the concrete vibrator and generator down in the bucket...
Jim wanted to do a little more hole cleanup before he started...
Then he had to get the concrete mixer (AKA the pumpkin) and hook it up...
Time to get started mixing...
Three bags of concrete mixed and poured into the mortar box...
Time to mix 3 more bags...
Dumping that into the box...
A quick cleanup before we head down to the end of the driveway...
I had to run back up the hill to get an extension cord, so I missed Jim filling up the hole but it looks great!
Seeing if the cage is level...
Checking to make sure the anchor bolts will fit well on top...
Pushing the small tube cut off into the concrete. This way, he'll remove this paper portion before the second pour and put the rest of the tube over the concrete. That way, he'll have a very stable base and he'll know everything is level and accurate.
Making sure it's level...
Using the rest of the concrete to fill it up...
Well, all done except for all the cleanup...
Cleaning out the pumpkin...
I always call Jim my monkey man, because he still clambers around like a 20-year-old! When the pumpkin is on, there's no easy way to get in and out of the Bobcat - you either climb under or you climb over the top!
Even though it was a warm day, most of the work we did was in the shade. There was no humidity and a nice breeze so it was all good!
