Today was concrete day! Jim left early this morning to meet someone in Saratoga for a Craigslist sale and then headed to the rental place to pick up the power trowel. Once he got home, he got busy getting all the tools out and everything ready.
Kyle and Hope drove up this morning from NYC. The concrete was supposed to be delivered at 1:00 but the dispatcher called and said they were coming early and would be here at 12:30. Kyle barely got out of the car before the truck was pulling in!
Since the concrete truck can't drive on the existing driveway without crushing it, Jim took the concrete in the bucket of the Bobcat and then drove it up and dumped it in the lean to...
Kyle worked on spreading it out...
Vibrating the concrete...
Using the power screed to get it flat...
Time for some clean up...
It was very cool today so between that and being in an enclosed area, the concrete took a long time to set up. Time for the first bull float...
In between jobs, Kyle helped Jim move our tubs out of the way and move the Z into its storage spot...
Moving the treadmill into its new spot for now...
Time for the first power trowel - Jim was anxious to try this out; he's never used one before. They had trouble getting it started at first but finally got it working. Then there was a definite learning curve to using the trowel...
First pass - looks great!
The crew was very tired and hungry so we got this huge monster pizza for dinner!
Then it was back for the final power trowel - all this had to be done in the dark using the lights on the Bobcat!
Jim is thrilled with the way it turned out!
Cleaning the power trowel in the dark...
It was really good to see Kyle and Hope and we sure appreciated the help! They went off to their hotel and will head back tomorrow.
