Wow - it's been quite an adventure for Jim. He arrived back in Ohio late last night and went over to the neighbor's chicken coop to check out the car first thing in the morning. Thankfully, it was still there! You can see that part of the roof had blown off so it's a good thing we got it out of there before winter.
Kyle had stopped to look at it maybe a year ago when he was passing through Ohio. He took lots of pictures so that Jim could get an idea of the damage. But Kyle had also bought a tire inflator that connects to a car's cigarette lighter - and unbeknownst to Jim, he had left it in the car. Jim had thought he would have to take all the wheels off the car and take them to a gas station for air because obviously they were flat after sitting for years. But he was able to pump them up right where it was. And then he pulled it out of the coop with the 4Runner...
He got it out near the edge of the road...
But then, of course, things got complicated. The shipper was supposed to pick up the car tomorrow because Jim didn't know how much work it would be to get the car to the road. But the shipper had to pick it up today because he had another car to pick up tomorrow in Buffalo. The problem was that he was planning on leaving right away - he would probably arrive back here with the car before Jim could get here. So it took hours of talking to the broker and the shipper before they came to an agreement - the shipper would pick up the car today and plan on having it back here in NY by 5:00 tomorrow. Jim met a friend who helped him get the car out to the street...
The shipper is steering the car up onto the truck - it doesn't run so it had to be winched up...
So Jim is driving halfway back as we speak so that he can get some well-deserved rest before doing the rest of the trip tomorrow. But besides that, everything went much smoother than expected so we're very grateful. Here's the car taking off on the way to NY!
