It's hard to believe, but it was one year ago today that Mom officially arrived in New York! We're glad she's here with us!
After a Sunday morning breakfast of our typical oatmeal blueberry pecan pancakes, Jim headed down to the metal shop. He's using the vertical drill press/mill to cut this small edge off one side of a frame piece...
That way, when he welds it, the intersecting piece slides underneath and makes for a better weld...
Continuing to work on the other pieces...
It was another beautiful fall day, so after lunch we headed back outside to work on more posts for the pavilion...
With the toe boards in place, Jim lifts up the post...
Setting in the left rear corner...
First, have to crumb out the hole a bit from fall in...
Jim put a 12' board in place so we had that distance worked out from the beginning...
Checking with the level...
Putting braces up and leveling...
But when we did diagonal measurements again, it was a bit off - so Jim had to undo everything, bring the Bobcat over, lift the post out of the hole, and then do a little more crumbing...
Then repeating all the leveling and measuring!
Putting a second 2"x4" up for strength...
Getting the next post ready to lift...
Setting in the right back corner...
Starting to level...
Argh...no matter how careful you are, and especially dealing with such rocky soil, the holes are never quite in the perfect spot. Jim wanted to move the post over just a tad, so he took it out of the hole again...
Putting up the 2"x4"...
Filling in the hole...
Definitely taking shape! This spot it just perfect - it's tucked back in this little alcove of the woods; you can hardly see it from the carriage house.
