10.21.2022

Jim had to leave early this morning to return the power trowel to the rental center.  We had our first hard frost overnight - the 4Runner was outside and the windows needed scraping!  I made some cinnamon scones while he was gone so he was able to sit and relax a bit before starting his work day.

When he got home, Jim showed me a new tool that was delivered yesterday - a huge breaking bar to help him take off nuts and bolts that have been torqued really high.  He has some Bobcat maintenance to do and will need to use this.  It's just a bit bigger than his other breaking bar!

This is the anchor bolt assembly on the temporary frame - Jim wants to bend the bolts so that they end up more in the middle of the concrete tube.

Bent just the way he wanted!

Walking on the new concrete!  It came out so nice.

Jim spent the morning getting all his tools cleaned up and put away from yesterday and getting out all the tools needed for the next job - cutting the concrete.  However, when he got his concrete saw down, he couldn't get it started.  He literally pulled the starter 200-300 times, trying all different kinds of starter fluid and tweaks.  He finally brought it into the shop and started taking things apart.  He discovered that a spark plug wire had come off - you couldn't see it without taking things apart.  Once he fixed that, it started right up.  Very frustrating but at least he got it working.

So the first step was to mark chalk lines where he wanted to cut...

He couldn't use his cart quite the way you're supposed to because there wasn't enough room, but at least the cart held a lot of the weight of the saw as he was cutting...

Using the leaf blower to clear out all the concrete dust...

Doing the back cut...

Looks great!  Although probably not necessary, we decided to cut a line down the middle, so he got that marked...

It's so very dusty when he starts cutting plus it's dark in this space, so he decided to use a red marker to go over the chalk

Making the middle cut...

Just a little dust when he did a final cleanup with the leaf blower!

Then cleaning concrete splatter from the walls as well as the floor.  Hopefully tomorrow we can get the sealant down and then it will be ready to start loading up!

Look how fabulous it looks!

High 60.1/Low 30 - hard frost overnight but beautiful day!
