Today was countertop installation day! The movers were coming at 9:00 so Jim did the final prep. He had to cut a little space out of the front blocking on the sink cabinet so that the sink would fit so he drew a quick pattern on cardboard...
Then used his jigsaw to cut it...
Then the two guys arrived and Jim walked them through all the challenges - they even brought up the piece of wood Jim had cut to see how they would get around all the bends. This was definitely a three-man job - Jim was able to both guide and help carry the middle weight of the sink, especially getting around the stairwell...
Bringing it around the corner...
We had put rugs down so that they could place the sink on them and then Jim could cut the zip ties off the strapping.
The countertop had to go in at just the right angle so it definitely required all three of them...
One guy got into the dishwasher space to guide it in place while Jim made sure the sink was good...
Just about there!
Cue the happy dancing - it is an absolute perfect fit and it's in place with no damage to the walls, countertop or people!
We had them move the hutch back into place while they were on their way out...
After much admiring, time to install the faucet...
Jim had to cut the existing valves off the water lines...
Heating up the lines a bit to get the crimp ring off...
Jim had bought new valves, including a T for the hot water so he can take a line to the dishwasher...
Our oil-rubbed bronze sink strainers and garbage disposal parts may not be in until the end of the week. Jim wanted to get water working so that I wouldn't have to wash dishes in the utility tub in the wood shop, so he started seeing how to make that work.
Unfortunately, the strainer we had on the stainless steel sink wouldn't fit with the thicker Corian, so Jim had to make a trip to Lowe's to get some parts. But then he came home and got the plumbing done...
It's just so beautiful - I can't stop admiring it!
Yesterday, Jim used some hammered finish spray paint to paint one of the newel posts to see how we would like it - and we definitely do! All of the steel on the steps will be painted like this.
