Today is Armed Forces Day - salutes to all those currently serving in the US military!
We had a severe storm blow through the area yesterday evening just as Jim's work day had come to an end. We had such high winds that the trees in the front yard were just swaying back and forth - you wonder how any of them remain standing! Then hail came on the leading edge of the storm, followed by torrential downpours. But it all blew through in about 10 minutes! Our power flickered a couple times but remained on, although there were apparently many power outages in the area. We did lose internet about 10:00 last night and it remained out most of the day.
Jim worked this morning in the shop, using every bit of maple he has left to start cutting and sizing pieces for the face frame on the other cabinet...
After lunch, we headed outside. The goal today was to cut up this big tree that fell down the winter before last...
He first cut off all the branches and then started cutting up the trunk...
He decided to go get the forks on the Bobcat to lift the trunk off the ground to make cutting it easier...
This was a huge tree - look at all the wood cut up to where he is still working!
Using the forks to try and get the top of the tree out between this other tree - still amazing how this tree fell perfectly in between all these trees!
Starting to cut all the branches off this section...
Taking the last branch out between these two trees...
We did a little clearing in a nearby area where we decided we would stack all those logs for splitting another day...
We have a giant pile of branches to be chipped and we'll get the logs out, but this area already looks so much better!
