Speaking of lights, Jim got the ceramic light fixtures installed in all of the boxes in the attic and put light bulbs in - we now have working electric lights in the attic!
Jim continued doing more blocking, working his way around the kitchen.
Then the rest of his time today was spent working on installing the lights and all the conduit in the wood shop. The last light in this row is one of the new ones, so Jim took out all of the inside pieces in advance of the retrofit he'll make when the parts come in.
The wood shop was the first place Jim put outlets of course. One of the tasks he has to do in the shop is to install GFI outlets on each of the circuits. This was the first one he tackled. However, he's definitely changed the way he does them now to make things stronger. When he first installed these boxes, he just fastened them to the stud. However, they aren't as sturdy that way. If you look closely, he drilled a hole in the receptacle so that he can reach through with his bit extender and put a screw on the inside of the box through the stud also. That way, when you pull a plug in and out, there is no movement to the receptacle. But that takes work in addition to switching out for the GFI. Jim said it definitely wasn't real gratifying work - but necessary, and will make for a better product in the long run. We all know Jim doesn't take any short cuts!
