However, Jim got all of the sheathing material up into the attic space. He got it fastened down but still has to go back and put all the rest of the fasteners in. That was a lot of time spent in a very tight space. He has to be completely hunched over and on his knees for the majority of that job - as well as going up/down the ladders to go into the wood shop to cut pieces. But it's so nice that it's all in place!
This morning, Jim headed out to talk to the building inspector. He had stopped last week but Jerry wasn't in. It was a good meeting with some happy results - we thought we had to get a separate plumbing inspector, just as we had to for the electric. But Jerry will do all of our plumbing inspections, so that was good news. He already knows and trusts Jim's work, so that's half the battle. In fact, the code just changed on some of the venting rules which Jim think will make things a bit easier for him.
The other reason Jim needed to talk to Jerry was about codes for smoke detectors. That's one of the last pieces of our electric puzzle but the codes are kind of ambiguous, especially for the type of building we are constructing. So Jerry is going to stop by after lunch on Wednesday to walk through the building and talk smoke detector needs - that will be a huge help!
When Jim got home, the Saratoga County road crew was out chipping up the branches that had fallen at the bottom of our property! Gotta love that kind of service!
As if that wasn't enough for his poor wrist, he spent the afternoon putting down the rest of the fasteners in the attic floor!
Late afternoon, our insulation arrived. The driveway was perfect and the driver had no trouble getting up.
The driver throwing off bundles of insulation...
...and Jim moving them into the auto bay for now.
We also got more good news - while the driver was here, Jim talked to him about getting the boom truck to deliver drywall. So they went to the back and Jim showed him where the truck would have to park and the window that we left out to use to bring the drywall inside. This driver thought it would work out fine. Right now, the ground has sunk some over the electric line trench, so Jim will have to do a little grading. But we're thrilled that it should all be doable!
That's lots of insulation! We did an inventory to make sure everything was there. Jim had spent time making sure there was plenty of space in this area for all the insulation - he wanted to be able to put the Bobcat back in.
The Bobcat will be getting lots of work in the next day or so - we are under a winter storm warning and are expecting 1 to 2 feet of snow tomorrow to Wednesday!
Jim decided to try out some of the new insulation - this is our first 12 inch ceiling insulation. You can see that Jim's procedure worked out perfectly...this insulation tucks down behind the rigid foam insulation to make a good fit.
