3.1.2017

Hard to believe it's the first of March - I think this saying is maybe a day early.  Today was a warm day, although a little drizzly (check out the picture at the end of this page!), but tomorrow the weather turns markedly colder.

Today was a "devil in the details" day for Jim.  I went out in the afternoon to look at everything, but it's hard to really capture all the work he got done.

He finished up all the steel framing details at the back of the master bedroom closet and cut the last piece of foam board to make the backing for the insulation.

Then he worked more in the second bedroom.  He installed the dual switch we picked up at Lowe's - one switch turns on the light in the room and the other, the light in the closet.

He finished all the nailers in this room - again, hard to tell from a picture but if you look close,  you can see that there is now strapping next to the last rafter and the wall for attaching the drywall.

He did all of the nailers in the closet too...

Jim is just starting to think about internet/cable.  He likes to put hardwire internet next to our computers for reliability - we'll have wireless too.  So this is the receptacle box in the second bedroom.  We also had the discussion about putting cable access in the master bedroom.  Jim and I have never (and will never have!) a tv in the bedroom, but we are aware that lots of people like it.  In the future, when renting this space out or having family stay, we may want to put a tv in here.  So at least with putting a receptacle for it, we'll have the option later on.

This is a major accomplishment for the day - figuring out the valley rafter in preparation for drywall.  Jim came up with a great solution - he added a wood piece on the one side of the valley to bring the two to the same plane.  He also added the wood piece on the side to complete that area.

Here's a close up...  It looks really good and should work out great.

Here Jim is putting up a piece of angle so that he can attach the attic floor.

What's really exciting is that now Jim is backing out of rooms where he can say that the electric and all of the detail framing work is done!  He's waiting on a steel order for more angle to finish out a few more areas but things are really starting to feel more finished!

In fact, Jim started planning for the next step - plumbing!  From this picture, you can see that he cut the pieces for the bottom of the wall next to the shower in the bathroom.  However, he wants to put Durock over the entire bathroom floor first.  But that requires a thin layer of mortar which needs to be done when it won't freeze.  However, he was able to get placement figured out - have to account for plumbing, drywall and durock.  Again, so exciting to even be having these conversations!

The warmer temperatures over the cold ground made for some heavy fog...this is over the little lake right down the street from us.  Gorgeous!
