Jim and I had our St. Patrick's Day meal last night, complete with green cake!  Even though we aren't Irish, we always celebrate Green Day!

Jim shoveled out my car this morning (best.husband.ever) so that I could run some errands, including stopping at Lowe's for a few more electric boxes.

When I got to the property, I got to check out all that Jim's gotten done since I was last there.  He was busy this morning putting up more blocking - the upper piece is for the cabinet above the microwave.

More blocking for that cabinet...

He even got the blocking done for the cabinets on the other side of the kitchen!

Then it was smoke detector work.  This is the smoke detector in the master bedroom - way up near the top of the ceiling!  Getting all of these interconnected took a lot of work to figure out the best path.  This one in the master bedroom is basically the end of the line - it's connected to the second bedroom, which is connected to the hallway.

The next one in the chain is the woodworking shop.  Getting that figured out took lots of work and planning.  Jim first drilled another hole through the track and decking into the shop...

This is one of the boxes I picked up for Jim.  The knockout hole wasn't big enough so Jim had to use his step bit to make it bigger.  Then he'll use the box adapter and coupler to put it together...

All glued together with an extender to be able to go through all the floor layers...

All in place and the wires in.  So the wires go from the hallway detector, down into the woodworking shop and then back up again!

Leaving the smoke detector on the ceiling of the wood shop with no discernible wires leading to or from it on the ceiling!  This is all pigtailed and ready for the detector.

The best way about Jim doing it this way is that the apartment is now finished as far as wiring for the smoke detectors.  Everything else will happen outside the apartment, meaning Jim can continue on doing insulation and the next steps.

The next detector is going to be at the top of the stairwell, even though the building inspector said we really didn't need one here.  In order to reach, Jim had to put his plank out and work off the ladder.

The box is all in place and wired!
