1.1.2017 - Happy New Year!

This is the sign at a church in town...thought it was appropriate!

A 2016 recap - Jim keeps track of his working days on his computer.  Out of 366 days (2016 was a Leap Year!), Jim worked at the property 349 days!  That left 17 days he didn't work.  But when you break that down a bit, here are some reasons we didn't work:
  • Kyle & Julia came up for ChowderFest in February - 1 day
  • Kyle & Julia's wedding in June - 4 days
  • Trip to Ohio for funeral in August - 2 days
  • Jim's kidney stone procedure in August - 2 days
  • Trip to pick up tools in Ohio, sell dozer blade in Tennessee, and pick up Bobcat forks in Pennsylvania in October - 5 days
That leaves 3 days - those were subzero days that we decided it was just too cold to venture out and Jim did desk work instead.  Pretty amazing to me!!

We got a couple more inches of snow overnight so Jim first spent time plowing the driveway again.

Once he got in the apartment, the day was spent on details.  He tried out some of the rafter baffles to see how they worked.  His cap stapler worked really well to hold them in place so he thinks this solution will work.  However, he spent time figuring out how he wants to insulate the area below the blocking...he decided he will probably use insulated foam board.

Then he worked on installing more angle in the corners to attach drywall.

We spent some time just talking over layouts in the living room.  In order to make sure we get electric boxes where we need them, we have to get a basic layout planned.  Especially for the flat screen tv - which wall we want it on is a big decision so that Jim can put a media box in the wall so there are no dangling wires!

We also had to talk about light placement in the living room and bathroom - which lights the switches turn in, how we want the fan to operate in the bathroom, number of receptacles in the bathroom...whew!

I put some grommets along some walls.  Unfortunately, the grommets we have won't fit in the 2-1/2" stud openings so Jim will have to investigate other options.

Jim continued working details...he put steel connection plates to tie the end wall studs together for more strength.

Corner studs to hold the corners together to help alleviate drywall cracks!

The sunset was gorgeous tonight...
