1.7.2017

Today was bitter cold - it was 3 degrees when I woke up and really didn't get out of the teens most of the day.  It was so cold in fact that the heater wouldn't work when Jim got out to the property - it runs on diesel fuel which doesn't like the cold weather.  It took him quite awhile to get it going - not good when the building was so very cold.

But Jim persevered and got some good work done before he came home for lunch.  He put another receptacle in the bathroom near the sink.

Sounds straightforward until you see that the stud is going the other way - meaning Jim had to put up a piece of track in order to attach the box.  However, attaching track requires Jim to be able to put screws in the back side - impossible with the back-to-back studs here.  So he had to take the stud out, put the track on and put the stud back in place.  A lot of work for one receptacle!

He also mounted the box for the light above the sink.  Again, not as easy as it could be - the proper location was right where there were holes in the studs so Jim had to make track for both sides.  He had the same attachment issues so had to loosen the other stud enough to be able to attach.  Whew!  But now, besides the fan, the electric work is done in the bathroom.

Jim put up another box for the light in the ceiling of the laundry room.

Then it was wall building time again - this is the little wall between the bedrooms.  But first, Jim had to put up track for the top wall connection.

Then the bottom track...

There's getting to be so much steel in the apartment that putting up these really long stud pieces is a challenge in itself!

Making sure the stud is plumb...

Putting the second stud in place...

Fastening it down...

Then Jim had to do a ton of detail work - he had to make clip angles to attach both sides of the new studs to the bedroom wall to keep things strong and in place.  He put blocking on the front of the wall also to keep everything aligned.

It was a lot of work in the cold - certainly good to get home on days like this!  Unfortunately, the forecast for tomorrow is even colder!
