Jim did some organizing in the downstairs shop this morning and we did a little more in the afternoon - he was able to configure things so that both the newer 4Runner and the Bobcat can be in one bay in the shop for the winter.
Jim worked in the stairwell this morning - here he's putting up the first ceiling joist on the wall. He needs to wait until his steel order comes in to finish but it's a start!
Back to building scaffolding again - at least it's inside this time!
Putting up more blocking...
Putting up the last blocking piece for this section.
Using the lines that we had drawn on the floor earlier, Jim made markings for the first wall section that we will put up.
Then he got the laser level out...
Using the laser projections, he was able to mark lines on the floor and walls exactly where the wall will line up.
Jim decided to use wood to make an anchor plate underneath the track for the walls. He's hoping that, besides some extra stability, that this will allow him to use the wood as a nailer for adding moldings. Cutting the piece to size...
Because of the way the box rafter comes down to the wall, Jim had to modify the wood to fit by doing some hand chiseling. He also had to notch the back where he had used screws to fasten the steel plates to the deck.
The front piece all finished...
Wow - look how perfectly it fits!
Next, Jim put down some Liquid Nails subfloor adhesive to bond the wood to the deck.
Which brought us to laugh about the Liquid Nails story. It was indeed a sad day for Jim and the boys when Liquid Nails stopped putting who we fondly called "The Liquid Nails Lady" on their tubes, probably as a result of not being quite politically correct. She was sorely missed.
Putting the wood into place...
Then fastening it down to the deck.
Just for fun, starting to lay out the track pieces that will go on top of the wood to form the bottom of our first wall!
We had to call it a day a little sooner than normal - Jim had to go for a follow-up ultrasound after his kidney surgery before his appointment next week. It will be nice to formally close that chapter.
