11.19.2016 - The West Wall is Done!!

"Ding, dong, the west wall's done, the wicked west wall's done!"

What an amazing day it was for us - after worrying about every part of this wall for so long, it's done!  At first, we would say - How are we ever going to get sheathing on that wall?  Then it was house wrap, and then shingles.  Each time, Jim figured out a way.  It was always scary but he did it!

Jim started the morning making a couple more pieces of trim to go under the rake boards.

He came up with a new template to cut the angled pieces...

Then it was back up on all that scaffolding to start putting up shingles.

After lots of good progress, Jim took time before lunch to catch up on some painting while the sun was out.

After lunch, he was up high enough that he had to use the ladder on top of the scaffolding.  Here he's marking for the next courses...

You can get a better perspective from down below - he is really high!

Jim has to go in and out the window almost constantly now - once the rows are shorter, there are so many cuts to make.  And now he has to climb up the scaffolding the whole way each time.

Making some of the last pieces...

Signing the last triangle...

Fitting the last triangle piece...

A huge thumbs up!

Relieved doesn't even begin to touch how happy we are that all the shingles are done on this wall!

Jim had to do some final painting - again, once this scaffolding is down there are no second chances!  Then it was time to put up the trim boards under the rake...

We definitely had divine intervention in finishing this wall.  Today was another gorgeous day, warm enough to paint, and Jim is putting on the last little piece of trim board as the sun is slipping behind the mountains.  Tomorrow we are supposed to get snow!

We even managed to get five more HardiPlanks painted - we'll need these as we work around back.

End-of-the-day picture - let the celebrating begin!!
