11.17.2016

Jim worked this morning on attaching the door sill.  He spent a lot of time cleaning up the area, vacuuming it, so that he would get a really good seal.  He had to use the hammer drill to drill through the concrete.  Then he used a whole tube of our amazing caulk to make sure everything was sealed.

Best caulk ever - OSI Quad

More caulk on the edges and over the holes where the sill will attach.

Ta da! Looks great!  We'll probably put some kind of protection over it while we are still building.  Since this had to be special ordered and was expensive, we don't want it to get all ruined.

He also got the trim boards cut and painted for underneath the rake boards.

Predrilling the trim boards...

Then it was time to start back on shingle work.  This is the piece that goes around the window and Jim is predrilling it to make installation easier and the smaller piece less likely to break.

The two sides are now connected over the ridge!

Even though Jim has to work in and around the scaffolding, because he's close to the window, I can hand him every shingle out the window.  He doesn't have to make room for all the different sizes - it's enough to try and keep all the different tools he needs close by.  Making good progress...

Jim got 11 courses done today!  Tomorrow morning, he will have to do all the flashing and starter board on top of the window and then we'll be able to just do shingles all the way across.  Of course, that means that he will be up really high and on ladders, which makes me crazy.

We had another beautiful day today - we are being totally blessed with good weather.  Before we can tear down this scaffolding on the top of the auto bay, everything has to be painted because there won't be any way to do it later!  In order to paint, the temperatures have to be favorable for that - and it looks like both tomorrow and Saturday will be nice.  And then snow is in the forecast!

End-of-the-day picture...
