The last couple of mornings have been very chilly here - around 30 degrees. But this morning when I woke up, it was 58 degrees! So the result of that temperature change was lots of thick fog. Jim took this picture this morning when he got to the land.
Jim did a lot of work on getting the deck pieces cut this morning. He got one put up and 5 more ready to go!
He also cut one of the pieces for the staircase area - they are smaller in length but are a heavier gauge steel. Jim said this area won't need any shoring underneath - the steel will hold up the concrete on its own.
Getting it into place...
Looks good up there!
Because Jim is destined to not have an uninterrupted work day, he had to switch gears this afternoon. He had emailed the septic system designer yesterday asking him if he needed to see the pipe coming out from the house before Jim backfilled. At lunchtime, George had emailed and said he would come this afternoon. So, Jim had to put the pipe in the trench and then make sure it was at the proper slope.
We even got the laser level out and checked elevation to make sure the slope was correct - and it was. Then Jim put more sand around the pipe. He didn't glue the pipes together yet in case George wanted something different, but George said everything looked good and Jim was fine to backfill. Another inspection in the books!
Of course, George was interested in looking at the building and he and Jim spent some time talking about various projects. Then it was back to work - Jim had started cutting another piece waiting for George - he didn't want to get the welder out until he left.
Since Jim had taken off the coatings on both the decking and the beam, he wire brushed the welds and painted them for protection. Nice color again!
They look good from up top!
Back to welding. It takes quite a bit of time to get everything all set up. Jim prefers to put up each piece and then weld it into place before putting the next piece up. But that requires more moving the equipment around.
Jim was able to situate the Bobcat in the center and was able to reach both sides that way. However, the Bobcat/welder and generator had to be moved back out of the way before a new piece could be brought up. Our roof is getting pretty big now!
