10.9.2014

I went to Lowe's early this morning to pick up the two pieces of PVC that Jim needed - these were the ones we ordered from the plumbing supply store that didn't come in.  We ordered them from Lowe's online last night to pick up in the store so that Jim could get started.  I got home with them just as Jim was heading out.  I had to stay at the apartment - yesterday we missed the FedEx delivery of Jim's welding gun because they required a signature.  Thankfully it came around 11:00 so I was able to head out to the land.

Meanwhile, Jim had already gone to the building department, talked to Jerry and set up a plumbing inspection for 2:00 this afternoon.  Which meant he had to go back and do the plumbing!  Here he is hooking up the sewer pipe.

Adding the clean out valve...

...and connecting it at the other end.

Here's the completed line - all capped off at both ends.  The level is on the pipes to make sure everything was at the right slope.  All of this was done when the building inspector came out - he said everything looked great, so another inspection in the books!

Kind of hard to see in this picture, but next we pulled the water line through - it's the black line at the very bottom of the picture.

Then Jim put another layer of sand around the pipes.

Next was the electric conduit.  See that nice bend so that it would fit in the ditch?  We used the heat gun on the conduit until Jim could bend it to the right angle - pretty cool!

We had to do the same thing at the other end.

All three of the utility thimbles Jim put in awhile ago are now being used and all underground work is now completed!

This is the end that will eventually be the utility room - you can see the electric, water, floor drain, and sewer stack all finished!

So now it's time to fill up the ditch and bury all that plumbing.  First Jim brought up more sand.

No more plumbing showing in the ditch!

Then he brought up loads of gravel to fill in the last of the open ditches in the building!

All filled in!

Layers of dirt went on top of the sand in the ditch and, of course, there were plenty of rocks to pick out.

Some final grading in the back corner where the Bobcat couldn't reach.

Wow - it's all done!  Another big accomplishment - Jim wanted to make sure that the ditch was all completed before the steel comes tomorrow.

Speaking of the steel, Jim got a call from them today saying they made a mistake on cutting part of the decking so not all of it may come tomorrow.  This sure has been quite the saga.  Thankfully, Jim doesn't need all of it right away - he'll have plenty to get started on.

Now the focus is just on tomorrow - the steel delivery and the crane to get the steel off the truck and place the beams.  Scary stuff!
