This has probably been the longest rainy stretch we've had since spring - and it's not making work too much fun! These are the days that test your mettle for sure!
Yesterday was more of a real rainy day. We went down to Albany to go to the construction supply company. This is definitely not a place for home owners - they deal with commercial building operations. Jim was able to talk to the guy about our shoring requirements for the decking. Jim, of course, had done all the calculations according to the brochure he had from this place on their shoring. But this guy said they put in all the measurements and calculations into their program and it will recommend the required shoring. So he took Jim's calculations and blueprint and he'll be back in touch.
While we were there, we were able to get a roll of geo fabric to use to separate the gravel from the dirt around the footers before backfilling. It's perfect - much better than the flimsy stuff we found at Home Depot.
After we got home, Jim went out to the land and worked on the lawn mower. He had to totally take the top of the engine apart to get at the alternator. He had never had it apart since we've owned it, so he wasn't sure how it would go. But he got it out and brought home the parts to clean up. A new part is ordered and on its way.
This morning was a drizzly rain. Jim headed out to the barn to get some more things he needs. We will use house wrap to cover any exposed Nudura to keep it from degrading until we can get brick on it next year. He had some at the barn, so he grabbed that. He'll also need his gas welder to bend the rebar that will go into the concrete deck, so that's now in the back of the truck.
After lunch, he headed back to the land. It was light misty condition most of the afternoon so it just made things messy. It's also only in the 40s so with the dampness, it feels pretty cold. The mist ended mid-afternoon and Jim was hoping to weld, but the tops of the beams were still wet. So, it was back to cutting. Even when conditions are not so much fun, Jim still got lots done - 5 more pieces cut, punched and ready to go! So that's 6 pieces ready to be welded for the last section!
