6.4.2024

We all headed out in different directions this morning - Jim had his annual physical and Mom had a follow-up with the podiatrist.  We did some grocery errands afterwards and when we got home, Jim was working in the metal shop, cutting steel pieces...

The angle connectors he bought yesterday to use on the chipper's hydraulic hoses...

Another pretty day, so we all headed outside in the afternoon.  First job was to put a bigger and more sturdy splint on the oak tree.  The first one did its job and the top looks very healthy, but it started to show some bending again...

Taping the splint on...

Staking the tree so it stands a bit straighter - that heavy spring snow did a number on it!

Then we headed back up to the top of the hill.  Jim wanted to use the metal detector in the area we cleared for the top soil pile.  But the detector was completely quiet over this whole area, so it must have always been heavy woods.

The first job up here was to dig out this stump so he could drive the Bobcat back....

It's always amazing how big these stumps are...

Grabbing it with the tongue of the excavator...

He brought the Bobcat over and put the stump in the bucket.  He drove it deep into the woods where we stashed a few other stumps and old logs to let Mother Nature do her thing...

Bringing back some top soil...

Starting our pile...

Continuing to get more bucketsful...

He took a few more loads back and then stopped to do some grass cutting.  An updated picture of our baby birds in the lean to - they're getting a bit bigger!
