6.18.2024

Jim changed the fuel filter on the 4Runner this morning.  When he does jobs like this, he's extra grateful that he has the car lift; otherwise, he'd be laying on the ground with gas probably leaking all over him.

In the afternoon, he switched to working on the chipper.  First step, ensuring that the new plate actually connects to the Bobcat - and it does!

He had to bring out his engine hoist to be able to lift the chipper off the pallet so that he can do the plate exchange...

He had to put the forks on the Bobcat and use them to hold down the hoist, since he couldn't extend the arms due to the pallet...

Old plate off!

Chipper with plate off...

Like a huge part of the country, we're experiencing hot weather.  We didn't hit 90° at all last year - today our sensor showed the high was exactly 90°.  So when Jim is out in the pole barn working hard, it was a good time for the first cold brew day!

New plate on!

Of course, it's not without an issue.  There are insert holes in the top of the plate where the chipper cover connects.  The insert is pressed into the plate - but they didn't do that for the new plate.  Jim said it will probably take a special gun to press and crimp it in place, so he'll be calling them tomorrow.  Just when we thought the chipper saga was done.

He can put the cover on temporarily with the back connections, but not the front. He can't use it like this; it would be too dangerous.
