It was a gorgeous day again so we headed outside in the afternoon.  The birthday girl joined us to watch!

Jim measured and marked the other side of these beams so that they will all be 12'...

Using the saw to cut as far as he can...

Then using the Japanese saw to get the middle...

Once all three beams were cut to the exact length, Jim started marking the location of the notches on each end - these beams will dovetail into the existing beams...

He used a combination of saw, Japanese saw and chisel to make these notches...

Measuring to make sure it's level...

Starting on the other side of the two end beams...

They look perfect!

This timber was the exact center of a tree...

The two end beams are notched on both ends...

Jim stopped at this point, put all the tools and equipment away, and did some grass cutting.

Then we took Mom out for dinner at a Mexican restaurant in Saratoga near the race track...

And came home for presents, cards and cake and ice cream!
