Definitely a holiday I can totally get into celebrating!! Everything's better with (dark) chocolate!
Jim had a day full of interruptions. He had to start the morning by heading in to get his bloodwork done, after the mixup last week with the orders. Once he got home and ate some breakfast, it was time to head to the dentist to get his permanent bridge placed. But it fits great so definitely good to have all our dental work done for the year! Jim had to stop work early today and we headed into Saratoga where he had to have another x-ray done for his kidney stone follow up.
In between all that, he still got lots done in the drawer factory. Using the router to turn over all the edges on the drawer assemblies...
All four drawers are sanded and ready for a coat of polyurethane!
He lightly sanded the other drawer pieces in preparation for another coat of polyurethane...
Sanding the drawer bottoms to get them to the right thickness. He ended up breaking another sanding belt - good thing he bought 3 belts when he ordered!
Sanding drawer fronts...
Gluing up more pine for moldings...
Putting contact cement on the Formica and drawer bottom...
Jim has drawer bottoms with Formica glued - he's using drawer pieces to apply pressure! He also got most of these drawer pieces all hand sanded.
A couple more drawer bottoms with a coat of polyurethane...
Starting to put a coat of polyurethane on the assembled drawer...
Jim said that putting them together like this and then finishing works better, so he'll do it that way in the future. Since the fronts have to be painted gray, it makes the process different. They sure look pretty though!
The other drawer parts now have their second coat...
