Jim did a lot of the millwork on the window frame pieces this morning...

He then transitioned to outside and dug the gas line trench the rest of the way to the generator.  Then he opened it up just to investigate a little.

The next step was to lay the new gas line in the trench.  It's very stiff line so it takes some doing to get it bent the way you want while still being careful not to get any kinks in the line.

That part is done...

The next step was to put flexible hose on the outside for protection.  We thought we could just slip it on over the line in the trench but this part of the job was much more difficult than expected!  We had to take the line out of the trench and do it on flat ground.  I held one end while Jim pulled it over the line but he kept having to come back to my end and adjust.  We were glad when it reached the point where he needed it!

He then cut off the excess and put it back into the trench.

All done with plenty of extra on both sides...

Next Jim brought up some sand...

And covered the beginning of the trench up to where it will intersect with the trench for the electric line...

Then he put dirt on top...

Here's the pretty before picture of our rock drainage area next to the back of the carriage house.

And the after picture.  We had to remove all the rocks from around the electric conduit going into the house.

Then Jim had to do more digging...

And more digging...

He ended up hand digging all this dirt from this area!

That was enough digging for one day.  Jim hasn't been able to find his trusty orange pocket knife since he mowed the grass a couple of days ago.  He knows from experience that when he sits on the mower, the knife can work itself out of his pocket.  He usually remembers to take it out but forgot.  So we took a walk over the front area by the driveway to see if we could find it.  And we did - yay!  But we also found so many mushrooms that had sprung up just in the 2 days since he mowed.  Our grass is still bright green and obviously moist even though we haven't had much rain to speak of.

At the end of the day, Jim went up to the pile of stakes up on the hill and brought some down to start work on staking and leveling the area for our concrete pad...

High 65/Low 43 - cool and nice!
