9.19.2019

We were under a frost advisory overnight and it was only 38 degrees when I got up this morning!  It was too chilly to do window work so Jim spent the morning in the woodworking shop.  He got all the wood planed and cut for the 3 window frames in the wood shop.

He had to glue one piece and then he'll finish that.  Then the pieces can be sized and milled.

He also made and primed these trim pieces that will go about the garage doors on the carriage house - just a final loose end there.

With a cold morning, Jim wanted to make sure he got the neutralizer for the furnace cleaned out and get new pellets put in.  As a reminder, the furnace produces condensation which can be acidic, which would be terrible for our septic system.  So the condensation collects and goes through the neutralizer and then outputs non-acidic water.  Jim had put unions on both sides of the neutralizer so that he could easily take it apart.

Looks kind of yucky!

Once he had it taken apart, he took it outside to do the cleaning.  The cap was on so tight that he had to bring out the big wrench to get it off...

Doing the cleanup work...

Using a funnel to put new pellets into the neutralizer...

Then assembling it...

And connecting it back up to the furnace.  Cross that "before winter" job off the list!

Jim was so anxious to resume work on the windows but the wasps were really flying everywhere.  He finally went ahead and started work on replacing the window in the second bedroom.  He first took off the temporary covering...

Then the scary part of hanging the window outside...

...and has to make the window fit perfectly on the bushings both top and bottom while holding the window outside.  Yikes!

All in place - then he got the hardware all assembled again.

The city spent most of the day in front of our property and on the opposite side, reclaiming sand from the past winter and making new ditches on the opposite side for better water runoff.  Here they are in front of our property - they cleared 3 or 4 feet from the edge of the road.

However, Jim went out at the end of the day after they were gone and just prettied it up a bit!

Cutting up an old pallet to put in the trash...

High 69/Low 43 - beautiful!
