Another busy day around here! Jim started off the day working in the woodshed. He had straightened, planed and glued some scrap maple pieces together into 2 pieces and had them clamped. In the background, you can see a piece gluing for the microwave cabinet.
He plans on making end pieces for the workbench top with the glued pieces - this will be more durable and add a little length as well.
He cut to size all the pieces of the face frame for the microwave cabinet...
As well as the side pieces of the cabinet...
But after lunch, he headed outside. It was another beautiful day and it's supposed to rain for the next couple days, so he wanted to take advantage of the sunshine. He got the trimmer cleaned up and did a lot of trimming of the small undergrowth up and down the driveway.
Then he put the battery in the excavator and it started right up! We wanted to transplant a tree - besides the white pines that we have on the property that grow so tall fairly quickly, we have fir trees - I've always called that the fuzzy pines because they are a soft, delicate tree and grow much slower. This one was growing on top of rocks and we wanted to plant a couple in the triangle. Starting to dig it up...
Taking it down to the triangle...
Digging a hole for it...
All transplanted!
Jim's next to-do item was to cut down a big tree behind the carriage house. As I've said before, we want to get rid of all the trees except pines around the house. We have beech trees and they get very brittle as they age. To make sure that the tree couldn't fall backwards, Jim brought over the Bobcat to brace it. Here he's tying up a branch from a pine so he doesn't break it...
Bobcat bracing the tree...
For some perspective, this is how tall the tree is compared to the Bobcat!
Starting to cut...
Coming down...
Timber!
Boy, the ground shook when this tree hit!
Kind of interesting...check out the giant woodpecker holes on this tree!
The ones blocking the driveway, we loaded up into the bucket...
