While that was drying, he headed outside. He continued working on spring projects - bringing out and hooking up the hose to the outdoor hydrant.
Continuing to rake up gravel in the yard and cut down undergrowth along the edges of the woods.
We want nothing but pine trees around the carriage house to prevent any issues with falling trees. With the strong winds we had recently, there were lots of branches down but thankfully the trees remain standing. But there are lots of smaller ones that Jim wants to clear. In addition, this area is where we are thinking of putting our generator, so it needs to be clear.
Timber! Rain was forecast today but it didn't start until late in the afternoon, so Jim maximized his outside time.
On Friday, Jim had me call the company that he ordered the clamp parts from because he hadn't gotten any tracking/shipping info. The guy told me they were shipped FedEx and would be delivered Monday. But when I went down to get the newspaper today, the box had been delivered to our package drop box.
These are couplers that allow Jim to turn his Bessie clamps into large clamps.
Assembled big clamps!
That means it's time to assemble the workbench top! First step was to put glue in the holes for the biscuits - Jim has the biscuits all ready to go to speed up the process...
Once the biscuits are firmly glued in, he puts glue over the entire area...
Then does the same on the other side...
Then we lifted up the side onto the table and Jim had to scurry to get the two sides to join together. When you are joining two pieces, you have flexibility to help guide the pieces into place. Not here - this half is like working with a steel beam! You can see he put old plywood underneath the table to catch any glue spills when the two half go together.
He continued working down the top, putting clamps up and tightening them gradually...
Putting more clamps on...
All done! Jim is just cleaning up extra glue from the surface.
