1.10.2019

The temperatures really dropped today so our slushy driveway turned into an icy driveway.  In fact, Jim drove me to the post office this afternoon to take a mailing in so that I wouldn't have to navigate it (such a great husband!).

Jim spent his time today working on the garage door extension.  Here's what the top of the door looked like as he got started - things weren't planned with this higher garage door in mind so the trim didn't go all the way to the top.

Jim filled in that area with the spacer he made - it's fastened to both the wood and the steel...

Then he put up the gusset boards he made - these allow him to strengthen the corner area for mounting the hardware but they also shim this area to bring the tracks out a little further since they will be higher.

You can see a couple things in this picture - he made and attached a piece of steel on the sloped ceiling that he will use to attach the tail support structure.  He also put the mounting hardware on the gusset boards and had to clamp the track at the end to hold it in place while he figured out the exact placement he would need.

Once he figured that out, he could mount the track hardware permanently.  Then he started building the tail support structure.

Getting everything cut to the right lengths...

Then fastening it all into place...

Next, he had to work on putting up the new track piece.  He cut it so that all the mounting holes were the same and he wouldn't have to change the screw placement.  He has some tweaking to do but the new track is all in place!
