1.15.2019

Jim did a lot of outside work today - it was "warm" compared to the temps we've had lately although it still wasn't above freezing.  However, we have some very, very scary weather in the forecast.  The low temperatures on both Sunday and Monday show that the actual temperature will be -19 degrees!  Plus we are supposed to get snow - Jim heard measurements in feet.  That combination is scary for so many reasons - Jim is still nervous about the heating system and the amount of propane we are using. But with those outside temperatures, who knows if the Bobcat will start since it's a diesel.  If it doesn't start, no plowing of the driveway.

So we are kind of preparing for the worst as best we can.  Jim got the snowblower out and got it attached to the Bobcat.  This will be good snowblower snow - with temps that cold, it shouldn't be a wet snow plus the ground and gravel are frozen.  For my part, I ran to the grocery store to make sure we had enough necessities to get us through in case we are snowbound.  I told Jim that I picked up dark chocolate and wine, so we're good - ha!

Jim also took the scaffolding down in front of the pole barn - sure makes it look nice!

He was able to get all the scaffolding tucked away inside...

Jim also had to deal with another Craigslist person who wanted the pallets.  However, this guy was great - good communication, came when he said he would, and was very pleasant.  In fact, he wanted the pallets to keep hay on - very fitting in this area, he races horses.  Now there are just a couple pallets left and they are basically frozen in place so they'll be there until spring when we'll just get rid of them.

Back inside, Jim worked on moving the air compressor closer into the corner where it belongs - it was kind of in the way where it was.  But seeing these scary pictures, I can see why he waited until I was gone - I would have been nervous!  Remember that this compressor weighs close to 700 pounds and it was attached to a pallet.  He used his engine hoist but in order to make it fit the size of the compressor, he had to take one leg off.  He had to kind of drag it off the pallet until he was able to grab it with the hoist.  He attached the strap underneath the motor mount so he could lift it.

He had bought some vibration-dampening feet and was able to put those on...

Then he got it back into the corner!  It looks good there plus it really opened up the area - especially since Jim is trying to work on the wiring here.

Speaking of wiring, while I was out, I picked up Jim's order of more wire, so he was able to run the wire from the breaker box over to the junction box, going through the light fixture...

A close up of the wire from the receptacles coming into the junction box and the new wire that will supply power coming into the box as well.
