Jim started his day out in the control room again, continuing to check the system for leaks. All of his solder joints are holding perfect - but he had some leakage around the unions on the last run he tested. He did some research on line and everything said that you really have to tighten them - much more so than Jim was comfortable doing initially because of possibly causing issues with the nearby joints. But you can see he brought out the big guns (giant wrenches) and really torqued them. One of the unions was almost directly behind the stack, which made tightening that extra difficult. All is holding pressure now though up to where the shutoff valves before the pumps - great news!
I had to stay at home for a Craigslist sale today and then ran to pick up some vent pieces that Jim ordered from the plumbing supply company. I also had to go to Lowe's and make the return of the one ceiling light (out of a box of 4) that didn't work. It was a complicated return made more so by too many people behind the counter but we eventually got it worked out. Then I dropped all the parts off to Jim and got to take a look at the living room ceiling - still drying but looks amazing!
Jim spent all afternoon working on electric in the apartment - he had to install 7 receptacles in the living room, as well as finishing up the fan/attic switch in the master bedroom.
Then he got the bathroom receptacles installed...
Smoke/CO detectors have been really tough for Jim - trying to find the perfect balance between having "smart" detectors and having so many that it's a waste of money. Plus, they all have to work together and Jim wants them hardwired into the system. He got the first one installed in the metal shop outside the control room - this one includes the CO detector. He tested it out for me - it talks and has different tones - you shouldn't miss that going off (although we pray it never needs to!).
Then the main "smart" one is installed in the hallway outside the bedrooms. Jim tested that it talked to the one downstairs. We ordered another one to try for the other areas to make sure they all work together.
Then he got the new ceiling light installed in the entry way...
So many finishing touches and so much is really coming together - very exciting!
Kyle and Julia are coming up for a quick visit - they should be here later tonight. It will be good to see them! Plus the carriage house certainly has changed since they were last here!
