4.17.2018

I had more parts pickups to do today at Home Depot and Lowe's.  When I got to the property after lunch, I got to see the rest of the shower area that Jim primed.

Jim also continued some electric work in the kitchen.  We decided to switch which lights a double light switch operated, so he took care of that.

But the big focus of the day was our plan to plaster and texture the master bedroom ceiling.  Before we could do that, Jim had lots to get ready.  He had to bring up a section of scaffolding along with 3 platforms into the bedroom.  This isn't real easy any more with all the walls drywalled.  One slip going up the stairs and Jim will have to spend time repairing drywall!

Then he mixed up 2 more pails of ceiling plaster...

Covering up the light fixtures - ceiling work gets really messy!

Jim always reevaluates how a project goes and sees what he can tweak to make it better.  He decided to put a row of plaster along all the edges first to get a good coating and make edging better.  With a roller, it's sometimes hard to get in all those corner edges.  This worked out great as we went along.

One of the things in the Lowe's order today was a telescoping paint stick along with a wider paint roller.  We needed to have a spare roller in case something happened in the middle of ceiling work - that would be disastrous.  The new stick made things much better too with the high ceilings in this room.  Starting to roll...

Doing the edge stomping...

And the edging...

Again - good teamwork was key.  Jim did the edging and rolling and then I did the stomping in the area he just finished.

Moving up on the ceiling meant it was time to work off scaffolding.

Doing the last row of first edging...

Time for me to stomp...

The timing worked out really well.  By the time we were done with the texturing the ceiling and caught our breath, it was time for Jim to lay down the pattern.

Working off the ladder to lay down the pattern...

Up on the scaffolding to finish the rest...

We were almost a bit too close to the ceiling - Jim already has a plan to do that a bit differently!

All done!  This was a bit daunting going into it with the high ceilings, but we are thrilled with the way it turned out - can't wait to see it when it's dry!
