8.16.2016

First, a little catch up.  We made the decision to go back to Ohio for the funeral of Jim's aunt.  We left early afternoon on Sunday - Jim just had time to go out to the property, check out the landing, and clean up the car before we hit the road.  With stops, it's an over 9 hour trip so we got to our hotel late Sunday night.  The funeral Mass was beautiful and a wonderful tribute to such a great lady.  It was also so nice to be able to exchange stories with cousins and family members that we don't get to see often, as well as to catch up with Jim's immediate family.  We enjoyed getting together for lunch before heading the car back towards New York.  We didn't get home til after 12:30 this morning, so a lot of driving in a short period of time.  But all worth it and we were so glad that we went.

After sleeping in til almost 8:00 - totally unheard of in this house! - our focus turned back to building.  There was a possibily of rain in the forecast so Jim had already decided no brick work today.  He was anxious to get back to work on the stairs.

The first stringer of the upper stair run is now in place!

This is a view looking up from downstairs - you can see all the stair structure up to the apartment!

Another view...

Jim was busy making all of the clip angles for the other stringer - here he's drilling the holes.

I got all of the plastic up and all the concrete droppings swept up - it looks so good!  This is going to be useful storage space; Jim already knows what things will go into this space.

Mid-afternoon, Jim took a trip to the lumberyard to get the special sized planks he needs to make the stair treads.  In this picture you can see that the second stringer is up and in place!

Kind of a blurry shot but the upper stairs are starting to take shape!
